Boating season ends, New journey awaits

Coming in to be put away for the season.

Coming in to be put away for the season.

We are going on a new adventure, but 1st we have to put away Calliste for the winter and pickle our lives in PT.

We have decided that it will be best for Calliste to be on long term storage at Sea Marine in PT, altho it was not the cheapest place to do so, it was the most convenient and had a good reputation. So here we are, at Point Hudson marina, waiting to be hauled out.

Weather was mostly sucky. From the day of the haulout, it was rainy and windy with few breaks, till the day that Calliste was all tucked away. Everyday we would pack up and unload stuff from the cabin, bring them down a 10ft ladder and load up Fordie to the brim…. and doing this in light rain and mucky ground. Sigh, this is Autumn weather at its worst.

That's Calliste as we left her. All wrapped up.

There were many times that we had to wait out the rather heavy downpour till it gets tolerably light. Who likes doing this stuff, much less in weather like this. 😦

Oh well, Doug persevered through this unpacking process despite the elements better than I did… I slacked and hid in the cabin or the library 🙂 and was cosy and dry. Who would have thot it took 2 weeks to unpack Calliste? Well, Doug wanted it almost completely cleared of stuff in all the lockers so that he could wipe every inch down with bleach and vinegar. Certainly it was a good time for cleaning and mold abatement, so long as I (who is allergic to bleach) could stay away from grumpy working Doug.

Then it was packing our stuff from the storage containers and the cabin. Whats coming with us and whats not… We are going away for a good 6 months, and then we’ll be back, so we don’t want it all empty and not livable when we do get back… decisions, decisions, decisions.

But I am certain H/P Yeli should come with us, and the paddles too.

So there is Eleanor in white, the dinghy in silver and the camper project upfront.

And finally, there is the thing about putting the Calliste’s dinghy and Eleanor away on the property. Yay, we can now stop paying storage for Eleanor 🙂 , and she is such a beautiful thing in my backyard anyway. We both enjoyed looking out of the kitchen window and seeing her there, basking in the morning glow (no sun, its gloomy everyday).

Closing up the driveway in my usual style...

Reluctantly we leave the cabin for now. We’ll be back in 6 months….

In the meantime, stuff, you are on your own… but I have good neighbors so I feel things will be just as we left. We have gone away many times and always come back to more weeds but never any big problems, so I hope our luck stays.
