Crop survived our 3 weeks absence

Onion flower buds

How do people leave their gardens and go away for weeks? Well, I did my research and what I can before going cruising, but did it work?

Cilantro flowers

The verdict…. drum roll….. YES! mostly…

In pots that had drain holes, it was just perfect. Pots with no drain holes were flooded. Plants survived, but did not grow well. I think they might recover after we drilled holes and release that trapped water.

Lesson learn…. MUST have holes, else GET TIMER! Ok, I am doing both for our next trip north.

Front corn bed doing well, back corn bed was flooded. Corn stunted.

So what do we have here…. Blooming Onion and Cilantro flowers.

Corn in the front bucket had perfect amount of water… but the back bucket was flooded. As can see, corn in front bucket blossoming. Corn in the back were stunted, but at least they survived.  Some tuning on the drip feed system, add a timer, and hope for the best…

Meanwhile, we are here, so we finished the roof and chopped more trees… what a productive break from cruising.
