The scary O/B on S/V Eleanor

Yes, I am terrified! I never like dealing with Outboards.. never fire on 1st 20 pulls, always so complicated to fix and so messy..  fuel leaks is very common, and if not leaking, its dried and plugged up on the inside of the carbuerator!

The heart of Eleanors' O/B.

This is us messing about with this rarely used 2006 motor. 50hrs max usage in 4 years. … and surprise surprise, we spend probably about the same amount of time maintaining it!

Taking it apart for cleaning

Alright now, whats wrong this time. Pulling every single piece apart, examining every nooks and crevices, running it thru MEK (a super effective solvent for dried fuel).

So tiny, the parts are hardly visible, much less the holes.

Now you see those tiny holes and micro machined lines? They were not so visible when Doug 1st removed them.

Assembled and ready to go again..

Okay, so thats probably the problem. .. but until its all re-assembled and pulled started, you wont really know that all is cleared… try to do a perfect job right from the start, so that you wont have to repeat the process of putting it on and taking it on over and over again.

Thanking my lucky stars, Eleanors’ OB fired up immediately after the cleaning trip! … … until the next time.. I suppose…
